WetSpass-M is a GIS-based, spatially distributed monthly water balance model developed at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Designed to quantify how precipitation is partitioned across landscapes, it simulates, on a cell-by-cell basis, actual evapotranspiration, surface runoff, and groundwater recharge. The model integrates land use/land cover, soil texture, topography (slope), and depth to groundwater with monthly meteorological inputs to capture intra-annual variability in hydrologic processes. WetSpass stands for Water and Energy Transfer between Soil, Plants and Atmosphere under quasi-Steady State; WetSpass-M extends the approach to a monthly time step.

WetSpass-M is widely used by hydrologists, water resource managers, and researchers for recharge mapping, water balance analysis, and impact assessments, and it is maintained by VUB’s Department of Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering.
WetSpass-M is developed by VUB. The most popular version of this product among our users is 2.7. The name of the program executable file is WetSpass-M.exe.
